Fish Face

This was a latex appliance that I have been working on for the better part of the semester in my Stage Make-Up II class. This process is quite involved, you have to do a head cast, then sculpt on the finished head, then cast that with plaster, and then finally do a slosh mold with latex and paint! The actual appliance takes over my forehead, nose and cheeks (gills). I think one of the best parts of this design is that the seem of the forehead is actually about a finger's width above the scale and you can't really tell at all ^_^

For my next and final project in Stage Make-Up II I'm going to be doing a foam appliance based on Brian Froud.

Other exciting news, a photography major contacted me today about doing make-up for her final project. It's going to be a super awesome project and I'm very excited for it.

Blood on White Laces

So in my other post I mentioned that I have been doing some make up work for Cinergy. This top picture is me starting to paint some cuts for Blood on White Laces. These cuts were done with some nose/scar putty attached by spirit gum and then painted with creme makeup and blood... woo!

Ooo, this above picture has some blood added to it. Which destroyed that nice white dress... wahahaha

And this is just me finishing up the look. I'm hoping to get some more special effects make-up jobs for films... ah the benefits of attending a huge film school.

Make-up stuff I should have posted forever ago...

This was for my Stage Make-up 1 final. I was Captain Jack Sparrow! Though several people said I look like Ted Neeley in the top photo.

Yeah this is from December... I've been super busy! I did make-up for two short films done by Columbia College's Cinergy. The films are in post right now but I'll try to link to them once they are up here on this little place we call the internet.

Lollishops Gingerbread House

It's here, it's here, it's finally here! Lollishops is up and running! I was very excited that I was able to set up shop with no major issues (it's a new site so there are still a few bugs being fixed). Sadie is doing a fantastic job of managing everything over there ^_^

I'm also very excited because my first item that I put up in my Lollishop is my Gingerbread House Plushzel! The house consists of 6 pieces that all link together. I had a lot of fun making this one ^_^

It's finals time here at old Columbia College Chicago so, I'm very very busy. Yesterday I was drafting from 2-5:30 straight through (my shoulders hurt now...). I have a paper for Acting 1 that I really should be doing right now... but I'm not going to :P

Renegade Handmade and Naming News

This weekend some of our friends from Oswego (that's the suburban hometown in which I was raised) came up to visit. Last time they were up here the Renegade Craft Fair was going on and I really wanted to take them because they are both fellow crafters. But, unfortunately it was a very rainy day so no one was up for walking outside in mass crowds of people. So, this time I decided to take them to Renegade Handmade, which is a handmade shop near the Division Blue Line stop.

It was awesome!!! They had a bunch of sweet plush and some really cool handmade prints of posters for bands (like Death Cab and Feist). Elliot found a Seibei shirt (Sandwich Dinosaur... can't find the real shirt but that's the link to the kid's version) that he has been wanting, which is exciting because he didn't have to pay shipping. I aslo got a pretty kickin' shirt ------>
It's cupcakes getting on the L... SO CUTE! It even has the little saftey dots by the edge. Yay for the cute cupcake shirt!

The other purchase I made that was really exciting was a Shawnimals plush. I learned about Shawnimals last year around Christmas break and that is really what inspired me to start making plush ^_^ I've been wanting a plush from Shawnimals for quite some time now and I am now the proud owner of a Pocket Pork ^_^ The best news is that the pocket pork is handmade! Once I found the black stitching at the bottom I knew that he had to come home with me.

In other news, with the opening of Lollishops coming up so soon, I've been thinking a lot about my shop title, AliceTwasBrillig. I use this screenname on pretty much every website that I venture to. But, I've been thinking lately that it is way to hard to spell and it isn't related to what I am selling. So I think the store is switching over to the name "Plushzels", a cross between Plushies and Puzzles. I was a little nervous about my Etsy store name being different from my Lollishop name but, the Lollies were super helpful! They suggested that I keep my Etsy account and just change my banner to say "Plushzels by AliceTwasBrillig" and then tag everything with "plushzels" so that I don't loose my feedback and sale numbers. I'm excited to get to work on the new banners ^_^

Oh and update on current projects: Still working on my website, doing a chipmunk make-up design today, and finally started up work on my gingerbread house for the Lollishops Contest ^_^

Blood and Gore

I've been wounded. This was last week's make-up project... just in time for Halloween! I have a lovely bruise on my forehead and some nice scratches. Today in make-up I made a pretty decent beard but, it totally freaked me out and was really uncomfortable so I ripped it off before getting a picture.

Well it's official, Barack Obama is going to be the next President, I think that is pretty freaking awesome! I got a nice button that says "I WAS THERE" because I totally was. I went to Grant Park and watched the election results and then the speech right there with the rest of Chicago and it was amazing. I'm so excited for the next four years.

The 17th floor had it's first weekly Double Feature Night tonight. We watched Boogie Nights and The Graduate... the sad thing is that I hadn't seen either of those movies until tonight but, they were both excellent.

Upcoming projects; I've been thinking of how I'm going to fashion a gingerbread house for Lollishops, have to memorize a scene in jibberish by 10:30 tomorrow for acting (half way through that class then, only design courses for me!), need to decide on an animal for next week's make up design, and I'm going to be helping a friend with a video on Sunday.

I feel really vain... only have pictures of myself up here so far... that isn't any good. So for now here is Oswald showing his Obama pride.

Off with your Head!

I know, sexy right? This is how my make up design for the Queen of Hearts ended up turning out. We were given a time limit and then sent on our merry way.

All I have to say is that I hate eyebrow blocking!!! It's a process that involves smearing every hair with spirit gum, then smearing wax on that, then putting this fixative stuff on, then putting make up on top of that... it's tedious and very icky but, at least it looks super cool.

The nose is a similar process what with the smearing of spirit gum and then shoving putty on top of that but, it seems less icky because you aren't smearing the sticky stuff over hairs... Yep so this took me about an hour and 20 minutes.

I'm excited for next week, we are doing injury stuff for Halloween!
